                                In a bold move to enhance leadership capacity among its members of staff, the ever evolving Management of the Lagos State University of Education held a two-day Leadership Capability Building workshop for Principal Officers and Senior Staff of the institution.
The event, themed “From Standard to Sustainable Approaches to Strengthening Accredited Programmes,” took place from October 7th – 8th, 2025, at the Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Main Campus, Oto/Ijanikin.
Declaring the workshop open, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, described the initiative as a well-thought-out programme designed to address pressing institutional issues relating to leadership, mentorship, research, postgraduate programmes, student affairs, financial prudence, ethics, communication, and maintenance culture, all vital to sustaining LASUED’s academic and administrative excellence.
Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye highlighted that since inception, LASUED’s journey has been guided by a clear and strategic vision to position the university as a globally competitive, research-driven, and professionally distinguished institution of teacher education.
She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to its guiding philosophy, encapsulated in the A.C.H.I.E.V.E. Agenda, which stands for Academic culture, Community relations, Human capacity development, Infrastructural growth, Entrepreneurship, Valuable research, and Excellence in professionalism.
The Vice Chancellor urged participants to remain dedicated to institutional excellence through collective effort, renewed commitment, and ongoing professional development, emphasizing that these are crucial for sustaining the university’s growing achievements.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Effective Leadership in University Administration,” Prof. Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, FAS, FAAS, FLS, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos and current Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, stressed that university leadership goes beyond titles, noting that it is about creating a culture that fosters innovation, integrity, and inclusivity.
According to him, “Sustaining standards requires leaders who are adaptable, communicative, and visionary. True leadership balances vision with practicality, inspires growth, and promotes accountability and teamwork.”
Other distinguished speakers at the workshop include: Prof. Bayo Oladipupo, Prof. S.A. Dosumu, Prof. Atolagbe, Joseph Abayomi Omoniyi, Mr. Oladele Olayemi, Mrs. Olajumoke Boyejo, Dr. Zainab F., Engr. Adebesin Abiodun, and Accountant General of Lagos State, Dr. Abiodun Muritala, they all delivered well packaged and thought-provoking lectures at the workshop.
The two-day workshop attracted Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and both academic and non-academic staff, and formed part of LASUED’s ongoing professional development initiatives.
